Handbook of the religious and church history of the Bohemian countries and the Czech Republic in the 20th century

Project duration: 2004 - 2008
Project management: Martin Schulze Wessel, Martin Zückert

The history of churches and religious communities on the territory of the present-day Czech Republic has long been neglected for the 20th century. For the first time, this handbook offers a comprehensive overview by tracing the fundamental developments of religious life across denominations.

In cooperation with Czech and German experts, existing findings were brought together and supplemented by new research. Following the decisive turning points in political development, the contributions provide information on changes in state-church relations, the development of the individual denominations and aspects of religious life.

It becomes clear how the individual religious communities reacted to the multifaceted political, ideological and nationally motivated challenges and how religious practice changed as a result.

The handbook was published in 2009. Continue to the publication.
